Tell us about yourself?

I graduated from York University with a degree in computer science. I didn’t enjoy the work, so I joined my wife’s family in the jewellery business. Eventually my wife and I opened our own retail store selling gold, diamonds and other jewels. During that time, I developed a passion for the business and earned my Graduate Gemologist degree. After my divorce I decided to change my career direction and specialize in selling wedding bands. I knew there was a good market for quality bands at reasonable prices.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

I would have focused more on social media marketing. Even though I have a degree in Computer Science I don’t have an interest or time to deal with ‘SMM’. For years I never made use of it. It was only recently that I hired someone to do this for me. Now I see it is important and can achieve beneficial results. I wish I had started using it earlier.

What problem does your business solve?

We help our customers find their perfect wedding band. We know how stressful and expensive planning for a wedding or other occasion can be, so we make this process simple and affordable. We make it one less thing that our customers must worry about.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

I really enjoy this business. I work long hours but find it rewarding. It is such a pleasure when we get feedback or a review from one of our satisfied customers. When I see that it wants me to keep going and work harder.

What is your magic sauce?

I know this might sound cliché but not only are our styles and quality second to none, but our customer service is the best. We don’t use bots or outside agencies to deal with this. I personally answer most inquiries and deal directly with customer issues. I will make sure each customer is happy with their purchase. I will do whatever it takes so that person is satisfied. Even if I lose money on a sale, I know I will make it back down the road.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

I plan to expand the business using social media advertising, Google Ads and SEO. In a short amount of time I have seen the benefits of using them. We sell mainly in Canada and the United States at this time, so I will be looking at ways to grow our sales in other markets like the UK and Europe.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

Our biggest challenge is our rising costs. Everything we do or purchase to run our business is increasing in price. From shipping to office supplies to raw materials – everything is going up in price. I want to keep our products affordable and I am hesitant to raise our prices. So far, we have absorbed these extra costs so I have postponed a plan to hire a professional to look after the Google Ads and SEO of our website. I am doing what I can on my own at the moment.

How do people get involved/buy into your vision?

I would like to work with more vendors in the wedding industry, such as, wedding planners, consultants, photographers, florists, bakers, bloggers, etc. We can find a way work together.
