Ben is an Academy Award-winning creative technologist. He was previously the North American Head of Software for MPC Film, one of the world’s largest visual effects studios. During his career, Ben has worked at the cutting edge of cinematic software development, with pioneering work across many areas of visual effects production, including multi-site digital asset management, crowd simulation and physics. His work on Kali, a tool for creating realistic cinematic destruction, helped to introduce new mathematical methods to the visual effects community and was awarded an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Scientific Achievement Award (a “sci-tech oscar”) for “setting a new reference point for believable on-screen destruction.”

Tony Mauro
CTO of Plasmatic Technologies Inc.
Tony leads the architecture and engineering efforts at Plasmatic Technologies, including the development of the Alana connected home system and device family. As an experienced systems engineer with a dual specialization in electronics and energy systems, Tony has led multi disciplinary teams working on a range of projects, from enterprise technology improvement initiatives to consumer device product and technology development. As an active champion within standards groups Tony’s focus is on making technology easier for consumers. Earlier in his career, during his tenure as a service architect and lead engineer at TELUS, one of Canada’s leading telecommunications companies, Tony was directly involved in the emerging Future Friendly Home initiative, with a focus on Home Control and Connectivity, as well as Wireless Data. More recently at Powertech Labs, Tony played an instrumental role in building out a Smart Energy practice, and helped the organization understand the intersections among large power systems, connected devices, and consumer needs. Tony loves finding ways to make his home more automated and adapted to his needs. When he is not riding his bike or taking his daughter to dance recitals, he can usually be found in the midst of a home renovation project or two.
