Nix develops and manufactures colour sensors. Users can take our devices and scan objects or surfaces to capture the colour data and view it in the form of digital values like RGB, CMYK, and more.

The scans are also converted to paint colours from all the major paint brands, so if you like the colour of a certain object, you can find the matching paint colour from your favourite brand using a Nix device and our host of mobile apps.

There is so much that can be done with colour data, and Nix is the key to unlocking that information.

Tell us about yourself?

I attended McMaster University with a B.Eng.Mgt., Mechatronics Engineering and Management. I have a passion for sailing and founded the sailing club while attending McMaster.

I have always had an interest in taking things apart to repair or make improvements. At a very young age, I knew I would be an engineer.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you

What problem does your business solve?

We provide a quick, accurate and unbiased solution for measuring and analyzing colour.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

The idea from Nix came from overhearing my mother who is an interior designer discussing colour with a client. I thought to myself, “there has to be a scientific way for determining colours.” At that time there were very few if any colour sensors on the market accessible for everyday users.

What is your magic sauce?

Most devices on the market are stationary and have a lot of moving parts. Our devices are smaller, portable and durable. Nix offers devices that can be used by hobbyists or colour measurement professionals.

We are a smaller company so we can move fast and make custom solutions.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

We will always be focused on colour and developing more cutting-edge colour measurement devices in both the consumer and industrial space.

We believe this technology is still in its infancy in the market. We plan on doubling our product line and providing solutions for the most unusual colour measurement needs in the world.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

Covid-19 was a challenge and still remains a challenge. With the closure of paint stores, we needed to pivot our focus from retail store placement to eCommerce and industrial solutions.

How do people get involved/buy into your vision?

If you or your company works with colour, we can work with your needs Grow your company with Nix Business Solutions.
