Dr Sean Goltz is a Senior Lecturer (Law) at the Edith Cowan University School of Business and Law. He was admitted to practice law in Israel, Canada and Australia and represented clients in the field of law and technology. Sean has published a book titled ‘The Imaginationless Generation” focusing on the regulation of the virtual worlds and is also the co-founder of Global-Regulation.com, the largest search engine of laws from around the world in English. Global-Regulation is supported by Google, Amazon, Microsoft and IBM.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Don’t worry, everything will fall in place when time comes.

What problem does your business solve?

Accessibility of the world laws in English, the ability to search laws and get alerts on new laws. This big data, in turn, allow for predictions, analytics and risk estimates into the future.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

When I completed my PhD in York University Osgoode Hall Law School, I realised that the regulatory process is broken because there is no regard to research or regulations and laws from countries other than the ones that are neighbours of each other. I wanted to create ‘The Policy Advisor of the Future’. Then I met my co-founder and dear friend Addison Cameron-Huff, which is the leading crypto currency lawyer in the world and a genius developer. Together we built Global-Regulation.

What is your magic sauce?

We provide a fast, simple and comprehensive tool. We also been diligent in getting support from giants like Google, Microsoft, Amazon and IBM – to allow us to hold the gigantic database we now hold.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

We would like to be the leader in fuelling the backend of as many data companies as possible, providing them our data, alerts and analytics. We are the only one to hold the data of the world laws in English – there is so much that can be done with this data and we hope to create predictions that will change the way risk is assessed.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

Because we are a bootstrap company, we rely on our revenue to grow and this could be a slow process sometime.

How do people get involved/buy into your vision?

Every company relying on data and risk, should have Global-Regulation analytics and API in their backend. Every regulatory and compliance professional in the world needs a subscription to Global-Regulation.
