Experimnt is a platform where local individuals and business can find all kinds of activities, classes, workshops – that we call experiences.
Our goal is therefore to connect local people that have a passion to share and local individuals that want to discover something new.
We understood that more and more people are looking to reconnect “in real life”, while the mostly globalized world on social media doesn’t permit. Basically Experimnt is a platform for locals by locals.
Tell us about yourself?
I was born in Belgium and without knowing it I built my first entrepreneurial project at the age of 9: a website for kids by kids. Looking back it was an amazing feeling to build my own small project/business and this idea would pursue me until now.
I came to Montreal at 18 to study business at HEC Montreal and got more and more involved in the entrepreneurial world: creation of a non-profit, important role in the entrepreneurship club of the school, etc.
I knew I had to create my own business, a startup that would have an impact on people’s lives.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Talk to as many people as possible. It’s always hard and scary to talk about your ideas, when they aren’t sometimes clear in your own mind, but this feedback is extremely important.
People have ideas, contacts, skills that they will want to share with you for you own benefit. Absorb as much as you can and take time to select which advices to follow, and those that might not be the best according to your own objectives.
What problem does your business solve?
By talking with people around us we understood that there was a common aspects that people are getting tired of: unstoppable online interactions. In fact people, and especially millennial are more and more looking to reconnect offline and in real life.
We thus thought of a way we could create bounds between local individuals by providing an offer that is unique and attractive. Experimnt was born!
What is the inspiration behind your business?
There exist many platform that offer activities for tourists, but unfortunately non are focusing on providing experiences specifically for the local population.
We therefore designed Experimnt with the idea of providing a source of experiences hosted by local artists, cooks, crafters, jewelers, sportspeople, dancers, musicians, etc. that are offered for local individuals and small businesses as private or team activities.
What is your magic sauce?
The quality and diversity of experiences we provide is incredible. Whatever your budget or your interests, you will find an experience that you like. It really is an invitation to discover new passions and what our cities have to offer!
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
We started out in Montreal last summer and have been able to grow despite of Covid-19 restrictions. In the fall we have expanded our offering to Toronto, and we are now planing on expanding to other cities across Canada in the upcoming year.
Our goal is to become a reference for local experiences discovery, and allow anyone that has a passion to monetize it by hosting an experience.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
The situation with current Covid-19 outbreak has been a great challenge to us and brought lots of uncertainty in the entertainment industry.
However, perspectives are actually amazing as more and more people show interest in these kind of experiential discoveries.
We believe that once all restrictions will be lifted, the market will grow exponentially. Until then, we have introduced online experiences to be live live from the comfort of your home!
How do people get involved/buy into your vision?
People can find all our experiences and book them directly though our website https://experimnt.com/, and we love receiving requests or ideas for new experiences to add in different areas by email: hello@experimnt.com!
And if you are an individual or a small business owner with a unique passion – in any area – and would like to share it, we want you as an experience host!
