Tell us about yourself?

Mike started his career by completing a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and a Masters degree in Software Engineering from the University of Guelph, in Ontario.

Mike then went on to spend several years at Google as a Site Reliability Engineer, followed by several years in the Silicone Valley startup space.

Mike returned to Toronto in 2008 where he started his second IT services company; MP Consulting Inc.

In 2012, Mike began a new venture along with several partners to build a purpose built IT services organization targeting the mid market.

Today, Fusion is a major regional player in the IT Services space and we continue to grow and service our clients in new and exciting ways.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Listen, learn and continuously improve. Technology isn’t staying still it’s always changing, whether it’s the shift to work from home and hybrid work or the newest cyber security requirements coming from your industry regulator or the federal government. Staying still means falling behind.

Our client’s rely on us to stay at the bleeding edge of technology. In order to maintain this high level of operational maturity, Fusion brings together experts from all areas of technology.

By leveraging these internal resources to supplement your internal IT management, you will find the greatest level of success.

What problem does your business solve?

Fusion is a operationally mature outsourced IT operations department.

In order to deliver our service in the most mature possible way we are approaching all engagements using well known tools and methods.

Fusion approaches all engagements from four pillars of our service; IT Support, IT Security, IT Infrastructure Management and IT Strategy.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

Traditional IT service companies are trying to do it all. This is where I failed in the past.

My previous companies were trying to be an MSP, an ISP, a software development house, a web developer, and everything else.

I was trying to be everything to everyone. Fusion is an attempt to do it better. Where we have succeeded is in developing an IT management eco system that can support the entire scope and requirements of small and medium business’ in Canada.

What is your magic sauce?

Fusion differs from the competition in a number of key ways. It’s important because there are 200-400 MSP’s just in the GTA.

Fusion is more than just a help desk that you call when you have a technical problem, we are that also but what we are is your IT department.

You contact us when you have a technical challenge in your business and we talk it out.

Whether you are going to open a new location, onboard new staff, host an event in the park or are in need of incident response, Fusion’s holistic approach to IT management has you covered.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

In the next 5 years, I would like to see Fusion continue to grow. I would like to see Fusion expand into international markets and become a recognizable brand.

As the IT consulting industry continues to mature and pivot towards cyber security I am certain that Fusion will take an increasingly active role in this new and exciting space.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

Finding people is hard! Fusion’s growth rate continues to increase. In order to continue to offer the very high quality and operationally mature services Fusion must continuously onboard new staff.

The last couple years have been especially challenging and we continue to find new and innovative ways to acquire the right talent at the right time.

How do people get involved/buy into your vision?

We are always looking for new organizations and new people to join the Fusion eco system.

Our typical organization is 50-150 seats and is looking to mature their information technology department and cyber risk mitigation processes. To learn more you can reach us at sales@fusioncomputing.ca.
