Dealiem’s mission is to connect people to locally discounted experiences, so you can eat often, drink well, and do more, … for less.
Tell us about yourself?
I fell in love with hospitality when I was a server in university. After graduation, I opened up a restaurant and ran it successfully for over 2 years.
Work life balance is very rare in this industry and I struggled to find time for myself, my friends, and my family. I sold the business and went into the corporate world working in tech. Tech + hospitality grew into a passion project which grew into Dealiem.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Focus on the process, enjoy it, learn from it, grow from it. The journey is more important than the destination.
What problem does your business solve?
Local businesses have finite seating and serving capacities. Restaurants, nail salons, your local mechanic, and even your barber, all face a similar problem. At certain times, they are jam packed with huge lines, and at other times, they are sitting around waiting for a walk-in.
By promoting off day and time food and drink specials, or services, they can have a steady flow of customers during off peak times.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
Working in the restaurant business, the ebbs and flows of customers is a real problem. Promoting your business is even a bigger problem for smaller companies without the technological know-how.
From a consumer perspective, sometimes I just struggle to find things to do, and new places to try. Dealiem has been a great inspiration for me to get out and try new experiences.
What is your magic sauce?
Our magic sauce is the team. We love what we do, and enjoy the process. Watching people use our product, and then having real experiences with their friends and loved ones gets us going.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
We have a road map that includes more partnership with restaurants, a mobile app, and a user community with forums, ratings and profiles.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
We launched after the first wave of the pandemic not thinking we would ever go back into lockdown. We ended up in 2-3 more lockdowns and that pushed our roadmap back 2 years.
How do people get involved/buy into your vision?
We want users to have great experiences and find great deals. If you enjoyed one of our experiences, let us know. If you have a deal you want us to promote, lets connect.
