Tom Collver: Leading eComm Performance Agency for High-growth DTC Brands

pb+j is the leading eComm performance agency for high-growth DTC brands. We help mission-driven 8-figure brands add Million$ in YoY revenue and more long-term believers without increasing their ad spend. We’re on a mission to create 40M believers for brands worth believing in by 2040.

Tell us about yourself?

I received my design degree in 2009. I’ve always loved creative things (music, theatre, design, art), problem solving, business, and connecting with people, and the digital field just really spoke to me and offered up all of things at once. I’ve always wanted to create something bigger than myself and felt that growing an agency with my business partner, Kyle, was the best way to do that; to have impact at scale.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

“Good things take time” and “this too shall pass” would have to be the advice I would give to myself. Ups and downs will come and they will go and I feel that I need that reminder often. Stay focused, stay humble, and stay hungry for what you want but know that it will take more time than you want but as much time as it needs.

What problem does your business solve?

We help DTC brands scale more profitably and create more long term brand believers without increasing ad spend or acquisition costs.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

We are trying to make commerce more joyful and human-centred. Commerce can be such a cold, homogenized, and soulless space but we want to align and support the brands that believe it can and should be done better—holistically better. If we can help those brands scale more profitably and create more long term brand believers without increasing ad spend or acquisition costs, then we can see more brands worth believing in out in the market.

What is your magic sauce?

Our people! Our Jammers are our magic sauce. We all share a deep connection to our work and our mission. We’re on our way to being BCorp Certified in the coming months as well as Climate Neutral Certified. We are carbon negative in our total operations—our company and all of the work we produce is carbon offset and then some—and trained in inclusive and equitable professional practices. We’re the only agency that operates the way we operate and delivers the results we can deliver.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

In the next five years, I hope that we’ve been able to help create 8-million or more believers for brands worth believing in and be partnering with a small group of brands long-term who are also chasing this growth vision. I hope to have a happy and thriving team and be exploring new ways that we can lead in the eComm space.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

As with most businesses, the pandemic has been a rollercoaster. For us, there have been a lot of very fortunate benefits of growth in the eComm space but it has also been tough to find new talent, grow a leadership team at such an inflection point of our own growth, and stare into the future to see where we can be of service next.

How do people get involved/buy into your vision?

We’d love to hear from DTC eComm leaders and brands that are looking to make a positive impact in the world while growing. Reach out to me to see if it might make sense to chat further 🙂 Stay Awesome.
