Arek Sredzki
Lead Developer & Founder of Vikom Media
Arek is the Software Lead of UBC Sailbot, a student engineering team from the University of British Columbia that designs and builds fully autonomous sailboats. In August 2016, UBC Sailbot launched their trans-Atlantic vessel, Ada, from St. John’s with a course set for Ireland. Though unsuccessful by way of mechanical rudder malfunction, Ada holds the record for the furthest crossing to date; having bested nearly 20 competitors, including the US Naval Academy. The team is now working on the next-generation vessel, which will feature an industry-leading obstacle detection system, the ability to navigate active ports, as well as safely navigate the Vic-Maui race in 2018. Passionate about autonomous vehicles, Arek has held internships at Google & Tesla Motors and is conducting research on real-time non-holonomic planning. Upon completing his undergraduate degree in August 2017, he will be joining NIO as an Autonomous Controls Engineer specializing in path/motion planning.
