we provide mobile apps and management systems for moving and fine arts logistics industries. Our missing is to provide affordable solutions for down to earth people who make a living from physical labor.
Capturing data with apps and scanning speeds up the time they spend on handwriting (that they are bad at) and extremely time consuming manual inventory control. And it’s important to us to help our clients go completely paperless. We like them trees!
Tell us about yourself?
I immigrated from Russia to Israel at the age of 18 back in 1990, got my B.SC and M. Sc in physics there, then got into high-tech. Moved to Toronto with the family in 1998, joined a very successful mobile technology startup.
My brother got into moving back in 1991 in Israel and in 2000 he’s set off on his own and decided that mobile devices will help his business.
I agreed to help build the system for his business first and see if we can turn it into a product. His competitors have noticed labels on his shipments and it went from there
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
read more on the basics of company processes and relationships. I wish I read “The hard thing about the hard things” and The Principles earlier. Having read “Inside the tornado” would have helped too.
Also speaking earlier to people who have real successful hands on experience with the financial and marketing side of business would have helped.
What problem does your business solve?
handwriting and manual inventory control in a very paper based, low tech industry that employs a lot of immigrants who can’t write in the language of their new country if at all
What is the inspiration behind your business?
we provide mobile apps and management systems for moving and fine arts logistics industries.
We wanted to provide affordable solutions for down to earth people who make a living from physical labor. Capturing data with apps and scanning speeds up the time they spend on handwriting (that they are bad at) and extremely time consuming manual inventory control.
And we want to protect moving companies from fraudulent insurance claims by giving them an ability to take photos of goods being moved. And it’s important to us to help our clients go completely paperless. We like them trees!
What is your magic sauce?
our systems are polished for real use, not demos. what makes us go is our business processes that are based on total transparency within the company and with the clients.
We are annoyingly upfront about what we do for a customer at each and every stop of the journey. Internally we follow meritocracy and stick to the belief that everybody has weaknesses and blind spots and we trust each other to cover these
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
We want to sustain rapid adoption of our new extremely easy to use and super affordable portal that allows any moving company, including individual truck owners and operators, to perform 3 most fundamental moving industry functions – print labels, create electronic packing list and perform delivery check-off.
The industry is being forced by institutional buyers and regulators to adopt these solutions and hammer comes down on the small hands-on movers who do the actual physical job. We want all of them to have an easy and affordable solution they can use right away and pay only when they get paid.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
Ceding control to other people in the company, building a process control system that governs everything we do and letting go of people.
